Welcome to the Garforth.Net Sports Pages 2010 sponsored by Lonely Planet and in conjunction with the BBC - launched through popular demand - you would not believe the amount of sporting information we have been sent during the last 2 years and with nowhere, until now, to put it!.....IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FEATURE LOCAL SPORTS INFORMATION HERE: fax 0871 2392091 or email  garforth@tokenhouse.net  THERE IS NO FEE FOR THIS SERVICE.

In terms of sport, people in Garforth tend to follow either rugby league or association football. Although rugby is the traditional sport of the area, football is increasingly popular in Garforth, especially with the younger people.

Rugby loyalties are split between the Leeds Rhinos and the Castleford Tigers historically big clubs that are nearby.

As for football (association) supporters, there are inevitably a large number of Leeds United F.C. supporters. Locally there is also a non-league club, Garforth Town A.F.C. Brazilian football legend Sócrates was briefly a player-coach for Garforth Town at the end of 2004 and former Brazilian international CAFU signed for the club in 2008.

Garforth also has two cricket clubs.

The Garforth Main Street was taken over by Castleford Tigers on Saturday 23rd June 2007, as a new Tigers ticket outlet was launched at the Garforth Bookshop. Seven of the Tigers stars went along to shop in busy Garforth Main Street to sell the first tickets to fans who were queuing before the twelve-noon launch. Fans turned up to meet the players who were there to sign autographs and have their photos taken. Andrew Henderson the Captain of the Tigers said: 'It was great to meet so many fans and I am sure that this new outlet will be a big plus in an area which although some way away from Castleford has a strong level of support for the Tigers. T-shirts and posters were given away to fans and many bought tickets on the day to take advantage of the advanced match day price. Byron Godfrey, the owner of the Bookshop, was pleased with the launch and delighted to see so many people coming along to his shop. Byron said: 'We are thrilled to be involved with the Tigers and through selling match day tickets for them it gives us another service we can provide to our customers who live in this area' Tigers ticketing manager Julia Kendrick said: 'Throughout this season we have been looking at ways to improve the service we offer fans with regards to advance tickets and this is another step. Byron and the people of Garforth were very welcoming and we hope that this latest venture is a big success for both the Tigers and Garforth Book Shop'.
